Manual 4K UHD Solar Security System
The Hozard 4K UHD Solar Security System (model HSS4K-1) consists of four cameras with solar panels and a HomeBase, the base station the cameras connect to. You control the system with the KooCam app. The cameras charge with solar power, have motion detection with tracking and are weather-resistant to IP66.

Installation
Connecting the HomeBase
- Connect the HomeBase to your router's LAN port and to the power adapter. Use the supplied Ethernet cable and the original 12V/1A adapter.
- Wait about 1 minute until the LED changes from red to blue.
- Prepare for pairing: as soon as the LED is solid blue, press and hold the SYNC button until you hear a "di" sound. Wait until the LED changes from solid blue to flashing blue. This means the HomeBase is ready to pair.
Charging and turning on the camera
- Charge the camera with the supplied USB cable. The charging indicator lights green while the camera is charging and goes out when charging is complete.
- Turn on the camera: press and hold the button with the power symbol until the indicator light comes on and confirms that the camera has started up.
If you turn on the camera and the base station at the same time, they connect automatically. A solid blue light means the connection was successful.
Installation planning and signal optimisation
The signal range of the HomeBase is up to 985 ft / 300 m in open areas without obstacles. Walls, glass and other barriers can interfere with the signal.
How to place the HomeBase:
- Place the HomeBase in a central position between the cameras, 3.94 ft / 1.2 m above the ground.
- Do not place the HomeBase in a basement or an enclosed space.
Before installation: Wi-Fi signal test
Temporarily place the camera where you want to mount it and use your phone to test the Wi-Fi signal quality there. Make sure the signal strength is at least 3 out of 5 bars.
Camera height and orientation
For the best motion detection, mount the camera at a height of 1.8 to 2.7 metres (6 to 9 feet).
Direction by hemisphere:
- Northern hemisphere: point the camera south.
- Southern hemisphere: point the camera north.
Make sure there are no obstacles in front of the camera, such as eaves or branches.
Preparation before installation
Charge the camera with the supplied USB cable. This takes about 7 to 8 hours. The LED is solid green while the camera is charging and goes out as soon as the battery is full. Make sure the camera is fully charged and connected to the app before you install it.
How to mount the camera:
- Drill the holes with a 6 mm (15/64") bit, using the position sticker as a guide.
- Insert the wall plugs and tighten the screws.
Mounting options
- On the wall: align the camera horizontally to cover the area you want to monitor.
- On the ceiling: tilt the camera 30° downwards for wider coverage.
Mounting the solar panel
- Fit the bracket and the panel: fix the camera bracket to the wall with a cordless drill and screws. Line up the screw holes of the bracket with those of the solar panel and tighten the screws clockwise.
- Set the angle of the solar panel: tilt the panel upwards. 45° is the best angle for most regions.
- Connect the panel to the camera's charging port: remove the rubber cover from the charging port, feed the solar panel's charging plug through the rubber seal and push it firmly into the port.
- Weatherproof the port: put the rubber cover back on the charging port so that the port is fully protected from the weather.
Solar panel location and angle
Choose a spot with as much sunlight as possible and without obstacles, such as trees or eaves. The solar panel needs at least 3 hours of direct sunlight every day.
Angle by hemisphere:
- Northern hemisphere: optimal angle = local latitude + 5°
- Southern hemisphere: optimal angle = local latitude + 5°
Pairing
Installing the KooCam app
- Scan the QR code in the manual with your smartphone camera.
- Or search for the app in your app store. On Android, search for "KooCam" in the Google Play™ Store. On iOS, search for "KooCam" in the App Store™.
Creating an account
As a new user, you need to register in the KooCam app with a valid email address before you can use the camera.
- Tap "Register" to create a new account.
- Choose your region, enter your email address and create a password.
- Tap "Register" again. The app then sends you a verification email.
- Open the email in your inbox and tap "Verify".
- Go back to the app and log in with your new account.
Please note:
- Accept the User Agreement and the Privacy Policy during registration.
- Cameras cannot be shared between accounts from different regions.
- Use a real email address so that you can recover your account.
Enabling permissions
- Give the KooCam app access to mobile data and Wi-Fi. Otherwise it cannot connect to the camera.
- Turn on push notifications for the KooCam app. Otherwise you will not get alerts when motion is detected.
Connecting the base station to your network
First check two things:
- Network: is your router working properly and is the base station LED flashing blue?
- Phone: does your phone have an active network connection? Any Wi-Fi or mobile data connection will work.
Then pair as follows:
- Open the app, choose "Add Device" and scan the QR code on the base station.
- Keep your phone close to the base station until pairing completes automatically.
If pairing fails, enter the device serial number manually. You will find this number on the base station label. The path in the app is: Setting → Device Information → Copy Serial Number.
Troubleshooting
Camera does not connect to the HomeBase
The camera LED flashes blue, but the camera does not appear in the app.
- Make sure the HomeBase LED is flashing blue (pairing mode).
- Reset the camera: press and hold the RST button for 3 seconds.
- Scan the HomeBase QR code again.
Solar panel charges poorly
The camera battery stays below 20% and the red LED flashes often.
- Set the angle of the solar panel to the local latitude (for example latitude + 5° in the northern hemisphere).
- Remove dust, snow or dirt from the solar panel.
- Charge the camera temporarily with the supplied USB cable. A full charge takes 7 to 8 hours.
No alerts from the motion sensor
No motion alerts or events appear in the app.
- Turn on notifications for the KooCam app (Settings > Notifications).
- Mount the camera at a height of 1.8 to 2.7 m (6 to 9 feet) with a clear view of the detection zone.
- Adjust the sensitivity of the PIR sensor in the app (Settings > Motion Detection).
Blurry night vision or infrared LEDs do not turn on
Night vision is poor or the infrared LEDs do not come on.
- Clean the camera lens and the infrared LEDs with a microfibre cloth.
- Avoid strong ambient light, such as street lamps, by adjusting the camera angle.
- Turn on the floodlight manually in the app (Settings > Light > Manual Mode).
No confirmation email received
Check your spam folder. Then tap "Resend Email" in the app.
Cannot log in
Check that the correct region is selected. Then use "Forgot Password?" to reset your password.
