Manual Alarm System S Pro and X Pro

This manual applies to the S Pro and X Pro alarm systems. The home security alarm kit connects to the internet via LAN, Wi-Fi or 4G. You set it up and operate it with the "Helio Pro" app.

What's in the box

The manual has no separate packing list and gives no quantities. It explicitly names these items as supplied:

  • Power adapter
  • Ethernet cable
  • Adhesive tape and screws for mounting the sensors and accessories

The supplied sensors and accessories are already paired with the panel. The mounting drawing (step 9) shows the main panel, a contact sensor, a motion detector (pet-friendly) and a key fob.

Installation

Requirements

To use the home alarm system, you need:

  • an internet router with a free RJ45 port and/or 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n standard)
  • an iPhone or Android smartphone running iOS 11.0 or Android 5.0 or later, with support for Bluetooth version 4.3 or later
  • optionally, a SIM card with an active plan or enough credit

Step 1: Prepare the network

Decide whether you will connect the system to the internet with an Ethernet cable (LAN), wirelessly over Wi-Fi, or over 4G only. If you choose Wi-Fi, have your Wi-Fi password ready.

  • Wi-Fi: 2.4 GHz, WEP/WPA/WPA2 encrypted
  • LAN: 10/100M Ethernet, IPv4 protocol
  • 4G: LTE

Step 2: Insert the SIM card (optional)

The SIM card needs an active plan or enough credit to send text messages and make calls. The PIN lock must be turned off. For a new SIM card, put the card in a mobile phone and turn off the PIN request there.

Make sure the panel is switched off before you insert the SIM card.

The slot takes a micro SIM card. For a nano SIM card, you may need a card adapter. When you insert the card, do not bend or scratch the chip on the SIM card or the copper contacts in the SIM card tray.

  1. Find the SIM card slot in the battery compartment on the bottom.
  2. Slide the metal cover of the SIM card holder towards "OPEN" until you hear a click, then lift it up.
  3. Place the micro SIM card in the holder with the chip facing down.
  4. Fold the metal cover back over the SIM card and press it until you hear a click. It is now locked.

Step 3: Find a suitable place for the panel

  • If you connect with an Ethernet cable, place the panel near your router or a LAN switch.
  • If you connect over Wi-Fi, choose a place with a strong Wi-Fi signal. You can test the signal strength with your mobile phone first.

Either way, you need a wall socket nearby so you can power the panel with the supplied power adapter.

Step 4: Switch on

  1. Connect the supplied power adapter to the panel and to a wall socket near the place you chose.
  2. If the indicator does not flash, remove the back cover on the bottom of the panel to reach the power switch. Set the power switch to "ON".

While the panel initialises, the logo on top of the panel flashes red for 4 to 5 seconds. A beep confirms this.

Connecting

Step 5: Download the app

  1. Download the app. Scan the QR code in the printed manual, or search for "Helio Pro" in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Create an account in the app, or log in if you already have one.

Step 6: Add the panel

  1. Go to the app's home screen and tap the scan icon (a frame made of four corners) to scan the QR code on the bottom of the panel.
  2. Make sure your mobile phone has Bluetooth turned on before you continue.
  3. The app now searches for the panel over Bluetooth. The app may ask for permissions while it does this. Choose "ALLOW". What each permission means is explained under "Permissions and privacy" further down.

No panel found? Check that your phone has Bluetooth and the related permissions turned on, and keep the phone close to the panel while it connects. You can also put the panel into pairing mode by hand: remove the back cover on the bottom and press and hold the network configuration button (the radio waves icon) until the panel beeps.

Step 7: Set a PIN code

Set a 4-digit PIN code for your system. You use this code to operate the system from the keypad (sold separately). The app shows the "Set a password for the panel" screen for this, with four input boxes and a "Next" button.

Step 8: Configure the network

On the "Network settings" screen, choose how the system connects to the internet:

  • LAN connection: connect the supplied Ethernet cable to the panel and your router, and tap "LAN".
  • Wi-Fi connection: choose the Wi-Fi network (2.4 GHz) you want to connect to from the list, and enter your Wi-Fi password.
  • 4G connection: tap "4G network" at the bottom. A valid SIM card must be inserted for this.

Step 9: Mount the accessories

All supplied sensors and accessories are already paired with the panel. You only need to mount them with the supplied adhesive tape or screws.

Before mounting, remove the insulating strip or switch on the power.

The drawing in the manual shows an example: the contact sensor on the door, the motion detector on the wall, the main panel on the TV unit and the key fob on the table.

Setup complete

As a test, press the ARM / DISARM buttons in the app and on the key fob, and check that the status changes accordingly. You can then start using your home alarm system straight away.

Use and settings

System status

The system has four states: "Arm", "Disarm", "Home Arm" and "SOS".

Arm: all connected sensors are active. Use this state when nobody is at home. If a sensor is triggered in this state, it sends a signal to the panel, and the panel sets off the alarm.

Disarm: no sensors are active, except life safety accessories such as smoke and water detectors. Use this state when you are at home and want the security system disarmed.

Home Arm: only selected sensors and the life safety accessories are active. You choose which sensors in the app under "FAMILY SETTINGS" > "ARM RULES" (in the app screenshot the entry is called "Alarm rules"). For example, it makes sense to keep the sensors on doors and windows active, but not the motion detectors. You can then move freely around the house, and the alarm still goes off as soon as a door or window is opened.

SOS: the system enters this state when an active sensor is triggered or when you press the SOS button in the app. During an SOS alarm, the system notifies users of the event, including which sensor set off the alarm. The panel's internal siren and all connected external sirens sound.

User permissions

You can give the users of the system different permission levels. Only one administrator is recommended, because this level has unrestricted access to your security system. SMS contacts added by mobile number are not included in this overview.

For "Critical alerts" and "Location", the printed manual refers to a further explanation with a QR code.

The app home screen

At the top it says "HOME". Tap this title to switch to another family. The icon at the top right opens the settings, where you will find all your devices.

Below that are the "Prime Services", "Video timeline", "Video list" and "Event" tiles. Next comes the panel status, with the "WiFi", "SIM" and "100%" indicators. Below that, you operate the system with the "Arm", "Disarm", "Home Arm" and "SOS" buttons.

Swipe up to see more quick widgets, such as the alarm panel, the status of doors and windows, or the smart plug or bulb you have added. To customise the widgets, press and hold a card or tap "EDIT" at the bottom (the round button with the pencil).

Family settings

The settings have two tabs: "Family settings" and "App settings". Under "Family settings" you will find:

  • Family: "Member settings" (members and notifications) and "Notification language".
  • Alarm system: the settings for the panel and the accessories. The entries for the different types of devices and accessories appear once you have added them, for example "Panel", "Wireless siren", "Remote control", "Door and window sensor" and "Security accessories". This is where you find many features and modes, see "Other customisable features".
  • Custom rules: "Alarm rules" and "Security notification settings", also see "Other customisable features".
  • Use the round plus button at the bottom right to add accessories.

Family user list

To open the list, tap "Member settings" on the "Family settings" page. The list has two parts.

Users with access to your system: these are the people who have access to your family. Tap "+" at the top of the list to create an invitation QR code, with preset rights for Admin, User or Guest. New members download the "Helio Pro" app and scan the QR code you shared.

SMS contacts: these people do not need the app and only get a text message notification in certain situations. You add them by phone number by tapping "+" at the top of this part of the list.

User settings

You can only edit users whose permission level is the same as or lower than your own.

  • Use the three dots at the top right to choose "Delete this user".
  • In the drop-down under the name, set the permission level, for example "Administrator".
  • Under "In-app push" and "Message push", tap "Receive these types of notifications" in each case to set the notification types for each user, for example "All notifications", or "Alarm notifications" and "Status notifications".
  • Finally, tap "Save".

For the system to send text message notifications, a valid SIM card must be inserted in the panel and the user account must be linked to the person's mobile number.

Other customisable features

You can customise the following features on the app's home screen or on the settings page.

Smart Widget:

  • Scheduled task: you can set a task by time, for example: run "Home Arm" every evening at 22:00.
  • Smart Following: instructions run automatically when the system reaches a certain state. For example: turn on the light when the system is disarmed.

Anti-interference: if the anti-interference feature is turned on in the Smart Widget settings, the system monitors interference signals and sets off an alarm. If the feature is turned off, the system ignores interference signals. In the disarmed state, anti-interference does not respond.

Care mode: you can set some indoor sensors as a group for life monitoring. If these accessories are not triggered within a preset time (only in the "Disarm" and "Home Arm" states), an SOS is sent. This feature is meant for people who live alone, especially older people.

Customise Home Arm: you choose which sensors stay active in the "Home Arm" state. Only accessories that support this feature appear. Also see "System status".

Ready to arm: if this feature is turned on, it reminds you when doors are still open before you activate "Arm" or "Home Arm". You can then close the door, or carry on anyway and ignore these sensors.

Further arming rules:

  • Entry delay: if the selected accessories are triggered, the system only sets off the alarm after the preset time.
  • Exit delay: the system waits for the preset time before it responds to the "Arm" or "Home Arm" command.
  • Alarm duration: 1 to 30 minutes, or silent.

Duress alarm: you can turn on the duress alarm feature to use it when you are under threat. You then enter the duress alarm password on the keypad. This stops the alarm and at the same time sends a preset SOS message to other users.

4G network selection: the 4G module works with most providers. If the 4G network configuration changes, you can turn off "AUTOMATIC SWITCH" and enter the APN information by hand. If LAN and Wi-Fi are disconnected and the panel gets no connection for about 1 minute, the panel turns on the 4G function, provided a valid SIM card is inserted.

Accessory mode:

  • Chime: you can link a door/window sensor or a motion detector to an indoor siren. The indoor siren then works as an automatic chime for that sensor. The indoor siren is sold separately.
  • Bypass sensor/tamper alarm: the sensor is temporarily bypassed, and you get no notification when it is triggered.

Troubleshooting

The app cannot find the panel or says Bluetooth is not connected

Press the network configuration button (the radio waves icon on the bottom) until you hear a beep. Also check that Bluetooth and the related permissions are available on your phone.

My phone says Bluetooth is turned off

Turn on Bluetooth on your phone before you start pairing.

Does the system still protect me if the power or internet goes down?

Helio Pro security systems go online via LAN, Wi-Fi or 4G. If LAN or Wi-Fi fails, the system switches to the 4G connection. If the 4G network fails, the system goes into offline mode. In this mode, Arm, Disarm, Home Arm and SOS are still possible (this requires a 4G LTE-capable SIM card).

The internet usually goes down because of a power cut. The system may then be running on the backup battery. With the backup battery, the system can keep giving your home full protection.

How do I reset the system? Does this delete all my data?

  • Reset on the device: remove the battery compartment cover and press the reset button for 5 seconds. The system deletes all data except the factory-paired accessories, and then restarts.
  • Reset through the app: "FAMILY SETTINGS" > "PANEL" > "ADVANCED SETTINGS" > "RESET PANEL". Here you choose whether to delete all data or keep the factory-paired accessories.

The app is slow, lags or keeps waiting for a response

Try the following before you ask your retailer for help:

  1. Connect the panel with a LAN cable instead of Wi-Fi.
  2. Restart the router the panel is connected to, or your phone.
  3. Turn off any VPN connections on your phone or router, so there is a direct connection to the internet.
  4. On the app's home screen, tap the "PANEL STATUS" area and check that the panel's connection is working properly.

Important information

Security

This home alarm system is designed to reduce the risk of burglary and other household hazards, depending on the connected sensors and accessories. However, it does not guarantee your safety. So always act with care and take reasonable precautions, even with the system installed.

Any security system, including this one, can be bypassed or fail for various reasons, including:

  • An intruder gets into the house through unprotected openings.
