Manual Hozard HSA-1 Smoke Alarm
The Hozard HSA-1 is a photoelectric smoke alarm with 360° all-round monitoring. It runs on two 1.5V AA batteries and warns you with a buzzer of more than 85dB and a red LED. It is widely used in homes, shops, factories and warehouses for fire prevention. Read the instructions carefully before you use the smoke alarm.

The product
The photoelectric fire smoke detector (smoke alarm for short) uses an infrared photoelectric sensor with a unique structural design, a reliable MCU and SMT manufacturing processes. It offers high sensitivity, high durability and low power consumption, and it is easy to use.
Button and light
- At the top of the front is the red LED (called "red indicator" in the specifications).
- At the bottom of the front is a single button printed with "TEST" on one side and "MUTE" on the other. In this manual it is called the test button. You use it to test the alarm and to silence the alarm temporarily.
How the smoke alarm works
The detector is designed to detect smoke from a fire at the smouldering stage or after the fire has broken out. When smoke enters the sensing chamber, it scatters the light. The change in light intensity received by the light-sensing component has a linear relationship with the smoke density. The detector continuously collects, analyses and evaluates the data. When the light intensity reaches the preset alarm threshold, the red LED starts flashing continuously and the buzzer alarm starts.
If the smoke clears from the room while the alarm is sounding, the alarm automatically returns to normal operation.
Dimensions
The smoke alarm is 90mm wide, 90mm high and 40mm deep.
Installation
The detection range is about 20m² in standard rooms up to 6m high. Install the detector on the ceiling.
Where not to install the smoke alarm
The smoke alarm is not recommended for rooms with:
- stagnant smoke under normal conditions;
- large dust particles, fog, vapour, fumes or corrosive air;
- relative humidity above 95%;
- ventilation airflow faster than 5m/s.
Installation steps
- Twist the rear plate anticlockwise off the detector.
- Using the 2 holes in the rear plate as a guide, drill 2 holes in the ceiling, 60mm apart.
- Screw the rear plate to the ceiling with the supplied wall plugs and screws (see Figure 1).
- Insert 2 x 1.5V AA batteries into the battery compartment of the detector. Observe the "+"/"-" markings.
Operation and settings
Standby
The red LED flashes about every 60 seconds. This means the alarm is in normal standby.
Smoke alarm
When the smoke alarm detects smoke particles that reach the alarm threshold, it goes into alarm mode. The buzzer makes a "beep beep" sound and the red LED flashes. When the smoke drops back below the alarm threshold, the alarm automatically returns to normal state.
Mute function
In alarm mode, press the test button to mute the alarm. The sound stops and the red indicator flashes rapidly. After a while the alarm starts again.
The mute function is a temporary measure, for example when someone is smoking or doing something else that could trigger the alarm.
Warning: only use this function when you are sure it is safe to do so.
Low battery
The red LED flashes every 55 seconds and the buzzer beeps at the same time. This means the battery is low. Replace the batteries promptly.
Test mode
Test the alarm regularly. When you press the test button, the LED flashes and an alarm sounds. When you release the button, the system returns to standby.
Troubleshooting
| What you notice | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| The detector makes a "Di" sound every 55 seconds. | Low battery voltage. | Replace the batteries. |
| Frequent false alarms. | Dust contamination. | Clean the internal structure with a vacuum cleaner (the black plastic part). |
Good to know
